THIS IS A PRECIOUS THING
We do not learn it's value
Until we are mature,
It's only then we appreciate
What it's really for.
It's surely not for saving
Or putting on a shelf,
Because it is so valuable
It's not only for oneself.
It's for giving to our dear ones,
Our family and friends
And for all of it we've wasted
We try to make amends.
When young we often squandered
Or spent in an unwise way
The thing that now we treasure
When youth is far away.
We realise so fully
It's the most bountiful of things
That we can give to others,
So much happiness it brings.
Let's make each day a treasure
Just like a valued ring,
Treat each hour like a jewel,
For time's a precious thing.
