THE HIGHWAY I TRAVEL
It seems that at the years pass,
I ponder more and more
On the roads I might have taken
And the things I was searching for.
From an early age I was singing,
It was as natural as breathing you see?
I could never imagine that music
Would not be important to me.
Oh, how I loved pouring my heart out
And expressing the feelings inside,
For I was quite shy as a young girl
And inside my shell I would hide.
It was different when I was singing,
I was confident - at least ten feet tall,
And as the years stretched before me
I thought singing would envelope them all.
And of course music has been important,
It has greatly enriched all my days,
But I've found in addition to singing,
Fulfilment in so many ways.
Had I taken that road as a singer,
With the pressures in a life of that sort,
Would I wonder, be quite so contented
As I am, with all that life's brought?
This way that I travel's not easy,
I've known many days that were sad,
But I'm still so grateful and thankful
For the sunny times I've had.
I still enjoy music and singing,
But not as the beginning and end
Of life, as it seemed to a young girl,
But more like a valued good friend.
There are hills still stretching before me
But I know I'll be helped on the way,
By this joyous companion called music,
Which so fully enriches each day.
