SUNSHINE

We know what a difference the sunshine makes
To a dark and dismal day;
It brings new life to all that it touches,
With its sparkling golden ray.
It shines on the brass and the flowers,

It colours the whole of the room,
Now all the wood looks a rich, shiny brown,
And light overtakes all the gloom.
The dull street in the city, will look entirely different I'm sure

When touched by the sunshine, instead of the grey
It will look bright as never before.
Imagine the glory of the sun on the sea,
How shimmering and sparkling it seems;
What a difference it makes when the sun shines on snow,
It transforms that as well with its beams.
So surely we too, in a much smaller way

Can make for others we meet,
Their day a bit brighter for meeting us,
It's not a tremendous feat.
A few cheery words with sincerity said,

A smile and a kindly remark,
Can make all the difference to someone alone,
And their day may not seem quite so dark.
Let us be determined at the start of the year

To forget our own problems, and then
Make sunshine for others, less fortunate than us,
So they will know brightness again.
