NO MORE WARS
The war that was to end all wars, that’s what the experts said,
Was the nineteen fourteen war that left so many dead.
Millions of young men sacrificed their lives through toil and strife,
With shattered limbs, shell-shocked brains they were maimed for life.
And then in nineteen thirty nine to everyone’s dismay,
Another war to end all wars started once again one autumn day.
But this war was vastly different to the nineteen fourteen one,
It wasn’t fought in trenches like the battles of the Somme.
Towns and cities were in the front line from the skies,
As bombs came down like falling rain to cause their demise.
How long would this war last were every ones fears,
Right before our eyes this carnage lasted for five long years.
A new dawn did appear, as the Germans were finally defeated
As were Italy and Japan with their armies greatly depleted.
The entire world after the Atom Bomb hoped for all wars to cease,
Over the years we’ve counted the cost for living in a world without peace.
So we ask, was that the war to end all wars? We pray to god it was.
