MUSIC

What is music? What is it for?
What does it add to our days?
How can it help? Is it something we feel?
It affects us in such different ways,
It starts very young as a soft lullabye,
That we hear as we're falling asleep,
Such a soft gentle sound, that is soothing and so
It's melody in our memory we keep,
Then as a child, to a different sound,
We skip and we dance to a rhyme,
A jolly tune this, it makes us feel gay,
The tune stays in our head all the time,
Then as years pass we listen to more
Of this glorious, magical sound
And we realise, as the years go by
What a wonderful treasure we've found,
There's music for when we feel sadness inside,
It's soulful and so bitter-sweet,
But there's gay music too, when all life seems in tune
And music for tapping the feet;
The mandolin music of Italy,
Or the sound of bazzouki, so Greek,
The dramatic notes of guitars from Spain,
Each of it's own country will speak,
Whatever the mood there is music to fit,
It adds much to our lives every day,
It can replace the words we would like to express,
If only we knew what to say,
It can stir the emotions, or sooth troubled hearts,
Or persuade a fond memory to stay,
Just the snatch of a tune that we heard long ago,
We're transported once more to that day,
Back through the years, when the music was heard,
The same feelings return once again,
The feeling that music indeed feeds the soul,
Oh please let it always remain,
Let me feel always this magic delight,
This feeling that's played such a part
In the whole of my life, it has meant so much
For, not only my ears, but my heart.
