Me Dad sed to me wen I wos a lad,
Do wot tha thinks reight, don’t do ought bad.
Life is for livin so live it to full,
Some days will be sunny and some will be dull.
Help one another cos tha never knows wen,
A time will arise wen tha needs help thi sen.
Where money’s concerned don’t overspend,
Earn wot tha needs, don’t borrow or lend.
Every day is a challenge that tha’ll ave to face,
So look upon life as an obstacle race.
Don’t gamble, don’t drink, don’t smoke and don’t swear,
Avoid all young women wi peroxide blonde hair.
Do all these things that I’m telling thee,
And tha’ll ave a gud life and longevity.
So wen I grew up I did wot mi Dad sed,
Till I met a young woman and got mi sen wed.
She changed mi whole life out of all recognition,
So I sat mi sen down to review mi position.
I just couldn’t do all the things mi Dad sed,
Cos it didn’t seem to please this woman I’d wed.
She wanted her own way reight from start
And sed if she didn’t get it we’d ave to part.
So I did wot wos best in that situation,
I packed mi suitcases and headed for station.
I’ve left that young woman I foolishly wed,
Wen she stopped mi from duin the things mi dad sed.
I regard it as being a battle that I’ve finally won,
Which proves that owd sayin “like father like son”.
