MAN AND THE EARTH
In spite of man's exploration and search for the unknown,
How little we mortals still really know
Of the intricate pattern of life upon Earth,
What ignorant incomprehension we show,
Selfishness and greed have invaded the land,
Some have much, far more than they really need,
Whilst others have little, or nothing at all,
Their soil bare and dry, without seed,
With all of our knowledge, we surely could find
Some way to alleviate their plight,
Innocent children, without shelter or food
Are starved or just give up the fight,
We adapt and intrude, for our own special needs
And thwart nature's more natural way,
Destroying the habitat of wild animals and birds,
So that many are threatened each day,
From every corner there are constant reports
Of brutal attacks and killing for gain,
What of kindness, tolerance, brotherhood of man,
Do not any of these still remain?
With our special skills, resourcefulness and intellect,
Surely some Council or body could find
A way of allowing the balance of nature
To serve itself and still serve mankind,
So that the natural world, all plants and earth's creatures
Could live compatibly together, hand in hand,
Sharing respect for the whole of earth's treasures
And living harmoniously with the land.
