GOODBYE, AGAIN AND AGAIN!

I kissed your lips as you took your last breath,
Why did it seem too soon?
This “Knew it would come one day” death,
I told you again, what I’d often told.
Did you hear it that one last time?
Your still warm blooded body seemed to
Make my own blood run cold!
Yes! My heart broke, is that a crime?
I drink my fill of you with my eyes,
I touch you one last time with my hand,
I fill my nose with the smell of you,
Will they ever cease, my sad goodbyes.
My memory must become an everlasting photograph,
I must at last relinquish the shell,
The outer, the body, the receptacle!
And remember how you made me cry,
And silly little antics made me laugh,
Yes, at last your time came to go,
As I knew it must.
I’ll never forget you, I don’t want to try,
I want you forever impressed on my mind,
You had to go, I understand,
But you left a broken heart behind!
