FOR SARAH
With a shy and hesitant sidelong glance
As she slipped into her place,
A small travelling companion
With wide eyes and innocent face,
"My Granny's seen me off", she said,
"Did you see she has white hair?
And now I am returning home,
Do you think we'll soon be there?
There are only just the three of us,
Mummy, Daddy and of course me,
I've missed them both an awful lot,
For I love them both you see?
I think I'd better have some lunch,
Will you now have your lunch too?
And I'm feeling rather sleepy,
Can I rest my head on you?
I will be six at Christmas,
Would you like to know my name?
My mummy and Daddy
Are called Batty, just the same,
I'm having ballet lessons
And go skating with my friends,
I've got ten more days holiday
Before the half-term ends,
Would you like to read my comic
Or shall I sing to you?
My special friend's called Ruby,
There's a song with that name too,
Are we getting near to Oxford?
Well, I'll put my coat on then,
I'm so excited knowing that
I'll see Daddy once again".
