ELLA (Born 17th Sept. 2006)

Today was Ella’s birthday, 3 years ago today
I gazed upon your pretty face
enjoying my very first embrace
And making plans of fun to come
Just
Ella and me the best of chums
Jumping waves in the sea, trips to the fair
tea shops and dollies and ribbons in your hair
I’d teach you things only nana’s know,
how to crochet, knit and sew
We’d sit by the window when the cold winds blow
and I’d be there for you when mummy says no
But 22 days from this date
the angels warned us of the fate
Ella was just too small to stay
they smiled at her as she was led away
So if you look through my window today
the house is quiet, all gone about their day
You’ll see this nana and tray set for tea
a cake with three candles on and me
You’ll see the glint of a tear in my eye
Because dear
Ella I didn’t get to say goodbye
I blow the candles and wish on a star
that you are happy where ever you are
And this time next year nana will bake
and put four candles on a cake.
