Take a searching look around us
And we'll really be aware,
Of the things we've failed to notice,
All the beauty that is there.
It's the smaller things we're missing,
If we hurry on our way,
With our eyes not fully open
To the wonders of each day.
We have looked into our gardens,
In quite a casual way,
Do we know which birds have nests there,
Or where the squirrel has his drey?
The varied, changing colours
Of a sky that greets the dawn,
Do we gaze with eyes wide open
In the Spring, when earth's reborn?
Have we gloried in a sunset,
Or the ever changing sea,
As if it were the first time
We beheld such majesty?
Being aware of all around us,
Makes us fully realise,
All the beauty that surrounds us
And his wondrous gift, of eyes.
