AUTUMN (2)
How wonderful is this special time of the year,
Wonderful - and yet sad,
Sad because all the beauty is fading from nature,
Or seems to be,
The flowers which have filled our gardens with colour
All through the summer,
Are now in the process of fading or falling,
The roses especially,
Seem to be making a final bid to hold back Winter
For just a little while longer,
Yet, as is the case with all sadness, around the corner
There is consolation,
This overwhelming feeling that comes with Autumn,
Which says,"Don't be sad,
There is still more joy to come"
A beauty of colour, which in some ways,
Even surpasses that of summer,
The trees in all their glorious hues,
Of yellow, gold and crimson
And all the varying shades in between,
What more wonderful sight can there be,
Than a woodland glade,
In all her rich Autumn colours,
This living canvas assures us
That although the beauty of summer
Seems to fade and disappear,
There is even more beauty following on;
Autumn is sad, yes, but it is also an assurance
That the bright sunny days of summer,
Will give way to a different kind of beauty,
The leaves will fall but as they drop,
They leave behind a promise,
That the sadness will quickly fade
And in it's place
Will be this wonderful feeling of optimism,
The sure knowledge
That the earth will awake from it's slumber
And burst into the glowing colours
Of life once again.
