A SHRUGGED OFF SMILE
I watched your quick smile fall off your face,
Like a child shrugging its small shoulders.
Learning the mannerisms of an adult, a parent,
Some smiles crease your eyes and put,
Dimples in your man cheeks.
Your tache moves as though it were a living thing,
Sometimes there are no smiles,
Just a distant querying look,
I can almost hear the unasked questions,
Do you think in questions?
Do you remember, “will you take me home, please?”
Or “are we going home today?”
You still call me Christine One!
I never learned who was Christine two,
Was she the one who sent you away?
The bad one, the one who reappears on occasion,
You have made me your dual entity,
Good one O.K. Stay, sit next to me, watch TV.
Bad one, sometimes even worse,
F... Off, go away!
If only I could know what you’re thinking,
When I watch you as if trying to stare into my mind,
I would always bring you Christine One,
Always I would leave Christine two behind!
